YPIE Students Moving Forward this Summer

It’s a busy summer for many of our YPIE students! We're thrilled to be seeing of our students getting ready for the new school year, starting early on the college process, and making a positive impact in the Yonkers community.

YPIE Summer Scholars: Incoming 10th/11th Graders

A select group of YPIE Scholars is taking part in the Y-Zone, a very important community project designed to address the digital divide in Yonkers and provide internet access to at least 250 need-based households. Our YPIE Scholars are conducting research to learn more about the digital divide in Yonkers and to determine the best interventions for Yonkers and similar communities across the country.

The Y-Zone is part of an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and led locally by The Westchester County Association. YPIE is one of many partners, which also includes The City of Yonkers, STEM Alliance, Fordham University, and Westhab. See photos here.

YPIE College Access: Incoming 12th Graders

YPIE Rising Seniors are attending workshops and spending meaningful time over the summer getting a headstart on the college process. Several workshops are being offered, including:

  • College Essay Bootcamp (July)

  • CUNY Macaulay Honors College Workshop (July)

  • Understanding College Opportunity Programs (July)

  • Common App Workshop (August)

  • SAT Workshops (online: July/August)

YPIE College Success: Incoming College Freshmen

Incoming YPIE college students are invited to attend the College Success Summer Day on Wednesday, July 21st. This event includes hearing from experienced speakers from My Sister's Place, HIVE Diversity, and YPIE about the transition to college and spending time with their peers before they start their college journeys.

Following strict safety protocols, we are thrilled to see students back in the YPIE College Zone this summer and also to continue working with many of our students online.

We look forward to being there to support our students as they start this new school year!
