YPIE Opens New State-of-the-Art Learning Space in Downtown Yonkers

Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE) officially opened their new YPIE College Zone, a state-of-the art after-school learning space that brings together hundreds of Yonkers public high school students each week to learn, be inspired, and be part of a community on the path to college success.

Mayor Mike Spano, Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Edwin Quezada, and NY State Senator Shelley Mayer joined the Ribbon Cutting Event on May 9th, along with representatives from the Office of NY State Senator and Democratic Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Impact100 Westchester, and MGM Resorts International.

Citlalli Rojas, 12th-grade student, shared her experience being part of YPIE during high school and her plans to attend Trinity College in the fall.  Citlalli joined many other YPIE students to give tours of the new space and present examples of the college readiness work that happens at the YPIE College Zone.

The YPIE College Zone provides a rigorous extended learning day for 9th-12th grade students who participate in the YPIE Scholars Program, with an emphasis on social, emotional, and academic skill sets, and support from YPIE staff and volunteer mentors from around Westchester.
