YPIE College Success Students Attend Inspiring College Internship Workshop

“2020 is a new beginning -- and all beginnings start with perspective,” said Zack Stelzner, a math and mindfulness teacher at Palisades Prep in Yonkers, as he kicked off the YPIE Coffee & Career Talk for our YPIE College Success students.

More than 40 YPIE alums returned to the YPIE College Zone to reunite with their peers and hear an informative presentation on finding the best internships during college led by Dr. Pamela Cohen, Associate Director at the Career Advising Center for Career Development at Princeton University, and Cynthia Michaelewiski, Assistant Director/Career Advisor, Anisfield School of Business at Ramapo College of New Jersey.

“This is your time. You are right on track. What matters most is that you find an internship that will give you the experiences that will be most meaningful.” said Cynthia.

Pamela and Cynthia shared many helpful insights, including how to find an internship, what to look for, and the best times to apply. They also led students in an activity to assess which internships would be the best fit by looking at the aspects that tie to what they value most in the work environment -- including the amount of independence, work culture, and opportunities for recognition.

“I learned about internships and the best time to apply for an internship in architecture, the field I am most interested in,” said one of our YPIE College Success students. “The speakers also suggested researching specific firms and applying directly on their website. It was really helpful.”

The session concluded with students sharing their goals for the New Year. See photos here.
