YPIE Celebrates YPIE Students at 17th Annual Gala

Updated: Oct 6

“YPIE rests on the honest – and heroic -- belief that through education and individual attention to our public-school children, regardless of their zip code, we can together build a better world.” - Marie Rama

In a beautifully starlit room, the YPIE community celebrated 17 years of ensuring students are on the path to success in college and careers.

Gala Honoree Marie Rama captivated the room with her heartfelt remarks about her journey as a YPIE Volunteer since 2008 and the enduring relationship she has formed with her mentees.

As mentors, we’ve heard their inspiring stories.  And we’ve seen how their life experiences make them resourceful, responsible, wise, and kind. The majority of my former mentees, like so many other YPIE students, are now professionals giving back to our communities.”

Perpetua Uduba, one of Marie’s mentees, shared, “Since meeting Marie in the spring of 2016, she has been by my side throughout high school, college, and during my current postgraduate journey. Some of the many reasons why I cherish the mentorship I receive from Marie is because of her constant guidance, thoughtful advice, and unwavering support.”

YPIE also honored NewYork Presbyterian Westchester for its deep commitment to our community and YPIE students.

“Our mission at NYP focuses on providing hope and healing to all those who come through our doors,” said Timothy Hughes, CPA, Vice President of Operations and Business Development, NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester. “So, it is an incredible privilege for us to support Yonkers Partners in Education and its students who are pursuing a career in one of the most rewarding and transformative industries in the world – healthcare!”

YPIE students presented their impressive projects, including science research, finance, robotics, film, and more.

The event was held at Sarah Lawrence College and the food was provided by critically acclaimed chef and YPIE friend Peter X. Kelly.

YPIE thanks the supporters, volunteers, elected officials, school district leaders, and friends who joined this celebration. With the generous support raised from this gala, YPIE will continue to put college success within reach for thousands of students.
