Although the school year is coming to a
close, Yonkers Partners In Education is
actively working to ensure that our initiatives
grow and strengthen in the next school
year. To continue providing increased
educational opportunities for Yonkers students,
we have kicked off an
ambitious fundraising campaign. We are seeking
investors who want to support the educational
journeys of the many children in Yonkers who
lack opportunity and access to successfully
achieve their goals.
Using a mix of traditional
and grass-roots marketing, as well
as social networking technologies like
Facebook and Twitter, YPIE is getting the
word out. We need your help now, more than
ever.
Take a look at our video and hear how
Yonkers students are benefiting from
our work. I ask you to consider that
these students are perhaps the best investment
that you can make!

The Power of Family
Stories
It's not often
that parents and children have the opportunity
to work side-by-side and learn at the same
time. YPIE's Family Story Power, an
innovative community-based reading and
writing program, does just that - and this year
it was expanded to seven different sites
throughout Yonkers. The children were
so excited to learn and their families were
thrilled to participate in this warm and
supportive environment.

Working on the Yonkers Student
Grapevine Newspaper
Students from all
seven Yonkers high schools had the
opportunity this year to publish their own
monthly newspaper, The Yonkers Student
Grapevine, delivered as an insert
to the YonkersRising
paper.
Read what Christien Jackson from
Roosevelt and Maria Cristina
Cruz from Saunders learned from this
amazing experience and how so many other
high school students have also become
budding journalists.

Yonkers Public Schools:
Scholarship Success
 This year, 2009 graduates
from Yonkers high schools were offered close to
$30,000,000 in scholarships to attend college
-- $9,000,000 higher than what was
achieved by the graduating class in 2008! These
students have achieved academic success in
high school, and now have the means to attend
leading colleges and universities.
Going forward, YPIE's College Centers will
help juniors and seniors gain access to even
more college application and scholarship
resources. Centers opened this year at
Roosevelt, Riverside, and Lincoln High Schools
and YPIE hopes to open Centers at the remaining
high schools in the coming year.
