Yonkers High School Cuts Ribbon on College CenterThis is the “crown jewel of the building," said Principal Ralph Vigliotti, referring to the new state-of-the-art YPIE College Center at Yonkers High School, an International Baccalaureate World School. Thanks to a generous grant from Related Companies, YPIE is fulfilling its vision of operating a full-service Center at every Yonkers high school and helping students navigate the road to college. The YPIE College Center represents a perfect example of the power of a public-private partnership, as YPIE and the Yonkers Board of Education work with private funders in the Yonkers Community such as Related Companies.
The College Center, staffed by YPIE College Advisor Michelle Rios, will serve the 1020 students who attend Yonkers High School. Its goal is to enhance the school district’s efforts to increase the number of students who attend four year colleges, to expand students’ college possibilities, and to serve as a hub within the school for students and their parents for college-related information and exploration. Guests at the April 8 ribbon-cutting ceremony included (left to right, below): YPIE Executive Director, Wendy Nadel; Yonkers Mayor Philip A. Amicone; YHS College Center Advisor, Michelle Rios; YPS Superintendent of Schools Bernard P. Pierorazio; YHS Principal Ralph Vigliotti; YPS Board of Education President Bernadette Dunne; Related Companies' Matt Finkle, Mark Carbone, and Mike Antonik; YPIE Board Chairman Richard Fitzgerald; and YPIE Board Member Tony Gallinari.
