Web-based College Guidance: Naviance

More than 7,000 Yonkers high school students now have access to the same college planning tools as their peers in surrounding high wealth districts, thanks to the continued support of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation. Students and educators are using Naviance software, a state of the art, web-based college research and planning system used by thousands of high schools throughout the world.

Naviance has been implemented in every Yonkers high school for the 2009/2010 school year and is available to all 9th-12th grade students. The Naviance process begins with a checklist of milestones that students must meet for college admission and culminates with application and financial aid processing. The system is designed to make the college process less intimidating and easier to navigate by students, parents, and guidance counselors.

The system not only provides resources and tools to students and parents, it also allows schools to run very detailed, up-to-the-minute reports on all aspects of student usage, college research, applications, and plans.

Naviance can also help students with career planning and exploration through its Career Planner product, currently available to students at Roosevelt, Riverside, and Gorton High Schools.

To use Naviance, students should see their guidance counselor or YPIE College Advisor to obtain an ID and password.
