Lunch and Learn

Through a partnership with Purchase College, Yonkers Partners in Education is offering weekly leadership seminars. At Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Riverside High Schools, students are mentored by college interns in group and one-on-one settings. The program's goals include improving grades in English and math, Regents grades, and overall academic achievements.

Students meet in their school's College Center during their lunch period where YPIE provides pizza and soda. Lunch and Learn seminars include:

 1. Practice Perspective/Setting Goals
 2. Expanding Horizons
 3. Achieving Balance
 4. Don’t Believe the Hype
 5. Participating in the Leadership Cycle/Habit Enhancement
 6. Be Civil
 7. Presentation Skills
 8. Fiscal Fitness
 9. College Life
10. Purchase College 101
11. Study Skills
12. Resume Writing and Interview Skills
13. Reflections and Acknowledgement of Achievements
14. Pre-college Preparation Assistance
15. Discover Your Talent

Purchase College interns can modify the workshops to meet the needs of the high school students. And, an added benefit, the interns become mentors and role models to the students in their groups.

Students interested in participating in a Lunch and Learn session should see their YPIE College Advisor in the College Center.
