Fundraising Gala - 2008

First Anniversary Celebration!
Yonkers
Partners in Education celebrated its first anniversary with a festive gala event at Villa Barone Manor in the
Bronx, highlighting the Yonkers students who have benefited from its programs and honoring Board Member and
Restaurateur Robert Leggio.
The emcee for the evening was WABC Eyewitness News co-anchor Sade Baderinwa. Over 400 guests came to the gala
to celebrate YPIE's first anniversary. The successful silent auction sold over 70 items including vacations at a
Cabo San Lucas resort, a villa in Miami, and a Catskill country home, as well as Broadway theatre tickets,
tickets to the The View, and dinner for six at X2O.
Yonkers
Partners in Education Executive Director Wendy Nadel, Board Member and Honoree Robert Leggio, Board Chairman
Richard Fitzgerald, and Mayor Phil Amicone all spoke at the event. But the highlight of the evening was hearing
from Charlyn Brea, a 2008 graduate of Lincoln High School and current freshman at Dartmouth College. Charlyn
spoke movingly of how much she gained from Yonkers Partners in Education's successful SAT Prep Class. She stated
that she might not be where she currently is without the support offered through this course-- which helped her
SAT score jump over 400 points!
In just one
year, YPIE has positively touched the lives of many students, like Charlyn, by offering them the opportunity to
increase their SAT scores and gain a competitive edge in college admissions. And that’s what Yonkers Partners in
Education is all about: providing opportunities that will help Yonkers students realize their dreams.
