Family Story PowerYPIE is supplementing at-home reading with a community-based program created by LitLife, a company specializing in developing school curricula and professional development. Family Story Power is a reading and writing program delivered in a variety of Yonkers venues including churches, libraries, schools, and community centers. This interactive twelve-week class enables children and their parent or caregiver to read culturally-sensitive literature, learn techniques for getting more out of a book, and create their own stories together. Family Story Power is offered at locations throughout Yonkers,
with sessions beginning in both Fall and Winter. Sites include the
Riverfront Library, Cedar Place School, Hostos School, South
Presbyterian Church, and
St. Andres Church. An average of eight families attend the class at each
location. To date, more than 150 families have participated in Family
Story Power.
For more information on Family Story Power, contact YPIE Program Coordinator Bettina Weil at 914.377.4882 or bweil@ypie.org
The curriculum for the Family Story Power program was generously funded by
The Edith Glick Shoolman Children's Foundation and an anonymous donor. |
